Words

A Story

When life becomes too much, the act of living too suffocating.
I would read, reading was my therapy. I like to think of myself as an escape artist.
I made the best of a terrible situation, by pretending it away.
Pretending, I was better and more than I am; being a dragon slayer or heroine in some story.
Was a far cry better than the weak, unassuming floor mat I was back in reality.
Somewhere along the line, words started meaning more to me than people.
Words didn't hurt or berate me, people did.
I got realities confused.
I became a story.
A jumble of words, that nobody ever bothered to read.

  1. This is beautifully vulnerable, Skye. What struck me at the end of it was that...it doesn't sound like the end. It sounds like the heart-wrenching beginning of a poem with a much better ending. A story of transformation and hope. You ARE a heroine, a dragonslayer. That's the truest you, and I pray you'll see that you unfurl petal by petal. Love you, friend. <3

P.S. I'm currently listening to Britt Nicole's song "Better," and it seems to match. Give it a listen. ^_^

    1. Thanks for reading it Tracey, it started off as something for a book and became something that hit a little closer to home. You give me hope! :D I really don't think it's the end either. Thank you for the prayers and lovely words, they mean a lot.

I adored that song as well, I have been listening to it a lot.

    2. That happens to me a lot--I'll write something fictional and end up finding a piece of myself in there. :) It can be a healing process.
      Anytime, m'dear!

Yeah, and the whole album is good! A change in style for her, but I like it. ("Pave" is a fave of mine, and so is "Heart of Stone.")
