Summer Daze

I've been trying to enjoy summer. I'm trying to see it as something other than a prelude to fall. As someone born at the cusp of autumn it makes sense to me, that I like the colder months.  I've been better about it than I usually am. I've gone to fruit stands, bought fresh in-season fruit even had a lovely peach shake. I've been to the beach, a few thrift stores, but mostly I've been at home. Social distancing is just my usual day to day.

Despite having a whole 2020 glow up, I still can't bring my self to go swimming.  At least, during the day. I've gone night swimming a few times, and it's much better that way. For one, no one can see you, so swimsuit insecurities vanish. No one else is usually there so you don't have to worry about being too close to strangers. You can stargaze. The water takes on the look of ink, and when the moon reflects off it, you almost feel as if you're swimming in the moonlight.

My sister, my friend Elizabeth and I had an extravagant Gatsby esque picnic. It was practically perfect with fruit, cheese, and a gorgeous baguette. We took polaroids and I played a few of my favorite songs from Folklore. A strange blob appeared in some of them (most likely from overexposure)  didn't stop us from deciding it was a new cryptid, which my sister dubbed the void.

The Void

We also got gelato ( Amazing) and I got to fulfill a life long dream by having proper cannoli. Also amazing. Anyway, picnics need to come back in style, they are incredibly therapeutic.

"Please picture me in the weeds
Before I learned civility
I used to scream ferociously
Anytime I wanted"- seven (Folklore)

"When you are young, they assume you know nothing"- cardigan (Folklore)

"I had a marvelous time ruining everything"-the last great american dynasty (Folklore)

We watched the second season of Umbrella Academy and it was just as colorful and chaotic as I expected. I missed their dysfunctional family. I have a lot of emotions about it that I've been meaning to make art for, but I've been pretty busy lately and still haven't found the time.
My reaction to Klaus

I also watched Cursed and I have a lot of thoughts I might do a post about it. (The Weeping Monk! that is all)
I may have watched the show just for him

I have been writing sporadically usually while soaking up sun, so it's mostly a collection of random sentences and I'm not sure it counts. (So here is a very short snippet)

I always felt a bit unsettled in churches. They were ornate, holy places. Encased in wax and preserved by whispered prayers. -  The Fairy and the Artist

I really need to start writing more and maybe some sketching but if nothing else, I've been collecting inspiration and focusing more on my actual responsibilities. I'm not amazing at it, but I'm attempting to get organized which is good.

At the same time, I've been trying to live like my life is a Ghibli movie which doesn't always work but I do enjoy romanticizing life, and filing away little details to use in books. I really should start a journal. I've been somewhat obsessed with both dark academia and the cottage core aesthetic. Taylor Swift dropping Folklore did not help. I've been listening to it constantly. It's gorgeous.

I've been listening to Podcasts for the first time ever. I love them. I've been listening to a lot of ones involving Celtic mythology and urban legends. Lore is my favorite right now.

I'm nearly done Ships, Secrets, and Survivors by Sarah and Helena and it's so good guys!

I am then going to start betaing Lila's  Dusted Red  I can't wait!

Well, that's all I have for now, how is your summer going?

  1. One thing I've enjoyed with this summer is the fact that it's felt very Fall and it's been the first summer in a long time that I've enjoyed it to the extent I have this year. I haven't done anything close to what I wish I did but I completely relate to trying your best to let go a little whether that's pushing yourself to go swimming at night which is just more aesthetic anyways. I'm so glad you've been having a bit of a 2020 glow-up and you've been a HUGE help making my summer

I'll never be over the picnic and love the fact we've all mutually agreed we've stumbled across a new cryptid. Thanks so much for including me for the picnic and Umbrella Academy.

I absolutley ADORE the Taylor Swift lyrics with the pictures especially the Seven one I think but they're all amazing and perfect. It's a whole vibe and aesthetic.

Love the snippet and everything. Listening to music, writing things, watching shows for specific characters all make up summer even if they don't always feel like it counts.

Anyways fantastic post and look the whole feel of this. It feels like listening to the Folklore album and I needed this today so thanks!

Me either, it was one of those perfect days. XD That was hilarious. Of course! It wouldn't have been the same without you.

Thanks! I thought that one fit the mood the most. I appreciate that!

  5. Okay but this post is so aesthetically pleasing! How dare you make me actually want to enjoy summer! :P But seriously, I am the SAME about summer. I usually just sit around and wait for it to be over, and hardly ever embrace the nice summery things. The heat and I don't get along. XD But picnics with friends and picture taking and swimming at night and all sound so lovely! (Also I feel like the Void now needs its own story because whoa, that's pretty epic. XD)

Living life like a Ghibli movie is 10/10 and I love how you romanticize the small things. <3

OH OH. I listen to Lore now and again. It is SO fascinating! Some weeeird stuff has happened on this planet of ours. o.o

Thank you for sharing all these lovely summer-y things with us! I do hope the rest of your summer is absolutely beautiful. <3

    1. Thanks, glad you think so! I know, what am I thinking. XD It's hard to like it.
The heat is the worst. It has definitely made me embrace it more than I usually would. ( I should write one! XD)

      Agreed! Thank you. <3

It's so interesting and slightly horrifying.

Glad it was somewhat entertaining. You too! <3

  6. The aesthetic of this post!!!! i love!! OOOh what is your favorite song from Folklore? Mine is August, but strong contenders are this is me trying and illicit affairs.

And you captured exactly how i feel about summer too! its always too hot to do anything and i personally live far away from all my friends so its super difficult to plan things without it being super complicated :/

And i 100% would love to live in a Ghibli movie. I adore the aesthetic.

Glad you had a good summer! Hope the rest of it is great!!

    1. Thank you!!! I'm so glad! Ooh that's a hard one, I adore August, but I think either exile or this is me trying, oh wait maybe seven.

The heat just kills me, that must be hard. It's always better when you have someone to do things with.

      Right! It's the dream.

      Thank you! Yours too!

  7. This post!! The aesthetic!! I am living vicariously through you!! (srsly though, this post is goals)

I'm glad your summer has been so lovely! I'm just trying to keep my head on straight between the 27+ responsibilities I have right now xD. But my summer college classes end soon, and then I'll be able to soak up the last remnants of summer before they slip away. (and I, too, am someone born on the cusp of autumn and thus likes autumn best, so I feel you there!)

It's been a nice change. Oof hope all that goes well. Love that, I hope you get to do that. (Right, we feel most alive when it gets cold.)

  8. Haha I just bought fancy cheese and crackers. I feel like such an adult snacking on crackers. Love the photos of the picnic. I too am better at colder weather. Summer has never been my season, really. I love hands that are being numbed by the cold instead of inflating from the heat. May Autumn come faster- please. Take care and we will catch up via blog posts soon haha :)

  10. Your pictures look so aesthetic! I would watch Cursed just for the weeping monk too, though I don't know what the movie is so maybe I wouldn't 😂.
Summer has been so busy for me. I love summer.
