The Writing Games

I know it's been a bit, I keep promising myself that I'll blog more but then I don't.

So, I signed up for 'The Writing Games' contest in December with hopes that it would get me writing again because I keep getting in these weird writing slumps, and writing flash fiction tends to break me out of them. I've been having a blast with it. I wasn't sure how I'd do considering that I haven't been writing for longer than I care to admit to any of you.

My favorite thing about it was that Maddie also joined. We end up twinning in the coolest ways, we share a birthday, we got published together after following each others writing journey since the beginning, and we got through the first two rounds together and made the story wall. (Which was really cool)

There was also a point where we both wrote our entries while on a lot of tylenol for different reasons, but still. (She's one of my favorite people, so having her with me made everything better)

Somehow I made it to the last round. And this round is different because unlike all the previous rounds it's decided by the reader's vote and for some reason that scares me more than the judged rounds.

The competition is pretty fierce too.

Anyway, I thought I'd share this with you guys if you want to go and read the three stories and cast your vote. You can find them here

Pick whichever one you think is the best.

Mine is a fae centric one, of course, I couldn't resist. It was also kind of Labyrinth inspired ish. ( I should have thrown some glitter in)

  1. AAAAHHH, SKYE! I cannot even express to you how much I loved your story! This was TREAT. I have missed reading your gorgeous writing. It is just so immersive and snappy and twisty. I mean, seriously, the twist in this one. :O BRILLIANCE. I loved every single second of it! You KNOW I am heeere for creepy fae. Always. Forever.

And SO MUCH CONGRATS to making it to the final round!!! I'm not surprised a single bit, because, seriously, your writing is just stunning. <3

I've never actually heard of The Writing Games until now, but it looks like such a cool thing. :O

    1. THANKS CHRISTINE!! I'm so glad you liked it, I was so stressed about it! *flails* Ah, that means so much. Oh I was hoping it captured at least one of those things, the twist was so fun to write. Thank you!
I like that we share that love, you creepy fae are my favorite. *cough* Lark.

THANKS! It surprised me. I don't even know what to say to that. <333

It's a blast, you should definitely join in next year. It really is super fun!

  3. That gif!

I think telling oneself to blog might make it harder, it should be fun, at least for me it does, I wait until I'm in the mood or at the right energy level. Also, I've been following someone who posts regularly, but the posts are often short, pithy and hilarious, I realized not every post has to be an essay, probably its better that most aren't.

    1. It's a favorite. XD

That's probably true honestly. Oh I should do that.
I completely agree I like doing short posts too.

  4. It was an excellent story! I voted for it earlier this week :-)

I agree with Livia Rachelle's comment above -- whenever I make up rules for myself for blogging, like I need to do one post every week or I need to post more of XYZ, I fizzle out. If I let it be more fun and spontaneous, I end up blogging more. Don't know if that would work for you, but maybe try it?

I also keep a list of blog post ideas in my bullet journal, since sometimes I have ideas, but no time, and other times I have time to write a post, but no ideas.

    1. Aww thank you! I really appreciate it.

I should start doing that, I feel like I kinda do already in a way. Sometimes I have post ideas and I simply forget to write them. But yeah being spontaneous is better. I will.

Oh smart. I just started bullet journaling, I should do that.

  5. Congratulations on making it to the final round! You're such a good writer, and 100% deserve it. Alright, now I get to fangirl. *cracks knuckles but not really because I have trouble cracking mine so I'll just pretend*
SKYE, THAT STORY WAS SO AMAZING! You use descriptive words so well, and it's so atmospheric, and it's just so interesting. The twist was incredible, too! You are the queen of writing creepy fae.
See, trying to convince myself to blog more usually results in me blogging less (my brain is contradictory like that), and I've tried following a blogging schedule, and it just isn't for me. That's not to say it can't work for other people, of course. Spontaneous writing/blogging just works better for me.
And I will always look forward to your posts, whether that's three times a week or once every three months.

THANKS FOR READING IT! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I'm always hoping it comes across as atmospheric. That was fun to write. I wish, but thank you!
That's true. I've tried the schedule thing too. I try to only write posts when I'm inspired.
That means the world to me! :D

  6. Oh my goodness, your story is SO AMAZING! That twist was perfection! Your writing style was really cool! And I love how you set up the dark fae, their image and their culture. It was really fascinating and clear. It felt like I read a whole novel worth of details and information, but it is only a short story. It was so satisfying. You did such an amazing job!

    1. Eeep! Thank you so much! Glad you liked the twist! I had a lot of fun with it. 😊
I love writing dark fae. There’s so much Folklore that people don’t use about them and most of it is terrifying. Omigoodness thanks, I struggle with flash fiction. So I’m glad all those elements came through!
      Thanks again!!
