The Bear of Rosethorn Ring (Book Review)

Hope you guys checked out some of the other posts on the blog tour!

When their father runs away, Marita and Diamond Kadlec realize how different twins can be. Marita’s ready to forget Lucas entirely, but Diamond wants to give him the second chance she’s never been able to give before. That’s before they discover that Lucas is indebted to the ill-tempered D’vard and his traveling circus, the Rosethorn Ring. The Ring’s entertainment lacks a bear, and Lucas must play the part of the savage creature to regain his freedom.

Lorcan D’vard cares only for three things: tending to his beloved beard, promoting his Rosethorn Ring, and eradicating the assassin out to kill him. With time running out, D’vard agrees to cancel Lucas’s debt and let him go free – if Marita and Diamond can apprehend the assassin before the assassin ends the show.

This is Snow White and Rose Red with a twist like you’ve never seen it before.

My Review

This is an adorable rendition of Snow White & Rose Red. If you’re looking for a sweet/ clean turn of a fairytale this is for you. It has a circus, hot air balloons, and possible assassins. Marita and Diamond are twin sisters dealing with Diamond’s temporary blindness and the sudden presence of their Father in their lives complicates things further. He gets himself entangled with a circus; ‘The Rosethorn Ring’ and Diamond, Marita, and Felix (Marita’s Fiancé) end up having to join up to help him.

I really enjoyed the circus bits of this story. The tightrope walking especially and Diamond’s smoke bomb act was really neat and unique. I also like how they used her and Marita being twins to pull some magician like tricks. I was also impressed at the exclusion of magic, and how well the story worked without it.

I love a good sibling centric story, Marita and Diamond’s relationship is the focus instead of the romantic one, which you almost never see.  Though Felix is a great addition to the team and reminded me a bit of Flynn Ryder sans shoes. The story is very cottage core esque in tone and light, which is a refreshing change to most retellings.

If you enjoy cozy and cute adventure type books, you’ll love this!

  2. "Flynn Rider sans shoes." XD THAT IS THE BEST. I'll admit I didn't mean to have Felix come out so Flynn-like, but you're totally right.
