Spooky Season

It's been a minute. My mental health kinda took a dive this month right along with the world. So that's why I haven't been able to post. I wanted to talk about it, but I also didn't and still don't really.

This is my favorite time of year, and the state of things kinda killed it for me. It's been helping me distract myself in a way. I've been writing, reading, and sketching. Trying to just enjoy the simple things. Crunching leaves, hot soup, the taste of pumpkin. All the good things. It's made me rearrange all my priorities, and things that used to stress me out and scare me no longer have the same effect.

My response after watching the newer It movies was basically either it's not scary or psychopathic clowns just don't scare me like they used to. Only the government does.

My cousins and I dyed our hair fun colors. Went to a graveyard, my cousin carved a pumpkin in the passenger seat on the way there. Then we had an impromptu photoshoot and got fall drinks on the way back.

Me in my element

(Got more photos but accidentally deleted them)

Had a Harry Potter marathon complete with these lovely apple cider champagne drinks and a small box of Bertie Botts beans.

Also related to the one where the whole school and ministry turns against them a little too much.

Watched some 90's slasher films. Most were awful, but we still had fun watching them. And Squid Game, which deserved the hype.  My theme for fall has been reapers and vamps. Accidently really, I just ended watching things with them in it.

Honestly though was it supposed to be a comedy?

I've also been loving Only Murders in the Building and Reservation Dogs two very different shows.

Oh and podcasts. I just finished The Magus Archives season 1 and I love it, especially Jonathan Sim's and how everyone thought he was putting on a bad English accent. And of course Morbid is my other go-to. (I made the pumpkin bread they suggested and it was super yummy.)

I've been reading a lot. Wicked Fox by Kat Cho is really good, and basically, a K-drama in book form, The Last Unicorn by Peter S Beagle had a ton of iconic quotes. Currently reading The Last Graduate and having some mixed feelings about it, but I'm only halfway. I won an Instagram giveaway Ellie Marney was hosting for  None Shall Sleep and I can't wait to read it. I've loved everything I've read by her, but especially her Every Breath series. Oh and I'm reading Of Stars and Shadows by Niki Chapelway and it's soooo good. You guys are gonna die.

I'm attempting to get through The Cruel Prince I have so many thoughts and none are good, sidenote Felix would make an amazing Carden.

My unconventional fall faves (Or things I haven't seen on any lists.)

What We Do in The Shadows (Makes me laugh every time)

End of the F*#&ing World season 1-2 (has lots of fall vibes)

Dead like Me (Grim reapers reap)

anime

Case Study of Vanitas (vampires, Paris, and victorian style)

Bed and Breakfast for Spirits (cozy, good food, kitsunes)

manga

The Ancient Magus Bride (It's so beautiful and full of lore)

Witch Hat Atelier ( cozy and cute like Kiki with spectacular art)

It's Okay Not to Be Okay (It's like Tim Burton meets a K-drama love the spooky atmosphere, style, and fairytale element)

That's all I have for now. Hope you all are doing okay.

  1. I'm so sorry your mental health took a hit. It has definitely been such a stressful, exhausting time. But I'm so glad you've been surrounding yourself with things you enjoy. Sounds like you're embracing the season in such fun ways! I love those pics you shared! :D

I do hope the rest of October proves to be much better and you have a wonderful fall season in general! <3

  2. This is my favorite time of year, too, and I've been trying to think of ways to enjoy it, rather than letting the state of things ruin it for me. :p Enjoyed seeing your pictures and lists of movies and music! I haven't seen or listened to any of these (except Harry Potter).

  3. Ugh, that sucks that you've been struggling with you mental health. I will admit, I've been having a bit of a rough time of it myself, but we'll get through. I've been trying to focus on the little enjoyable things than the big messy scary stuff going on in our world as well. Spooky season is one of my favorites it's just ahhh the vibes, I live for those. Also your hair looks super cute in those pictures you took.

    1. Oh yeah, and the Cruel Prince? Super mixed feelings about that one. I really didn't like the beginning but it did start to win me over, a little bit XD I like Cardan and the stabby twists but that's about it. Have you read The Coldest Girl in Coldtown? That is probably my favorite Holly Black story, it's just so dang creepy. Definitely a good read for this current season.

    2. Thanks, yeah it's been a time, I'm trying to keep it from getting to bad. Awe hope you feel better, we will! Yes, the little things help so much, and lets you kinda ignore the rest. Right, I feel like it just makes us that more creative. Same. Thank you so much!! :D

There's some moments I really like, but it's definitely not something I'm loving. I have actually, I think I did like that one. Have you read The Curse Workers trilogy by her, that series is my favorite. It's like mafia and people with powers and the writing is so good.

  4. I'm sorry about your mental health. I hope some of the fun stuff you have done has helped.

I was about to say something about Only Murders in the Building. I binged all the current episodes a few days ago, and I'm telling everybody! So good. Also have you watched Castle? It's also on Hulu. I watched it years ago, loved the relationships and friendships (banter, found family, just awesome), but the murders (esp one) scared me, so I wasn't sure about rewatching, but I'm skipping anything I think is too scary and the banter and stuff is better than I remember, so highly recommend.

I'm rounding it out with How I Met Your Mother (Hulu seems to have ton of great stuff on now) to make me less jumpy at night.

I'm in a rut reading wise, so I don't have any recs there.

Here's to a better October for you.

    1. Thank you, it has actually.

It's so good right. I like that it's modern but reminds me of stuff like. It's perfect for fall. I have I fell in love with it when it first came out. I loved the relationship with his daughter and his chemistry with Beckett, but after the fourth season it changed and I didn't like it as much. But those first few season are amazing.

I've been meaning to watch that one.

Oh no hate the slumps. I'm reading too many things, and have been meaning to read The Haunting of Hill House.

      Thanks! You too!

  5. Aw, I'm so sorry that your mental health hasn't been great recently. Hopefully things are better now. Also, your hair is fabulous.
Harry Potter is just so fitting for fall. I need to re-watch those movies soon.
That summary for Interview with the Vampire is hilarious.
I think I need to read/watch some of the things on your list. A lot of them look really good.
Hope the rest of your October goes well.

Isn't it, their just so cozy and comforting. You should.
It summed up all my thoughts basically.

  6. I really need to watch 'What we do in the shadows" everyone keeps telling me how good it is! I liked the first 'It' but thought part two was a bit flat.

    1. It's so good. The movie is too, but the show is just as great and I love all of them, but especially Guillermo. He's the best. The second one was definitely the worse of the two. I think the original was way scarier.

I may end up catching out, It's Okay Not to Be Okay and What we do in the shadows since they both seems interesting and perfect for Halloween.

  8. Glad you've been doing better lately. (love the red hair!!)
I adore all of this. Fantastic choices and wearing a pumpkin head through a graveyard has always been a dream of mine so I'm excited that you did it. It looks like you've been having fun and enjoying fall which is what we always want from it.
