Anyway, since I've been on here last I have acquired and lost a mint plant named Stephen and replaced it with another Stephen. I like plants now, don't know when that happened.
I also got a kitten for Christmas. My third cat, both Rumplestiltskin, and Loki have disappeared and presumed to be dead. I was super reluctant to get another, but when it's gifted to you. You can't really say no. I did have a brief meltdown about not being ready to be a mom. (If Maddie is reading this she's probably laughing at me) It's now my child, my baby Yoda. I would take a bullet for her.
A vicious beastie I dubbed, Kylo Ren for obvious and not at all sentimental reasons.
The lightsaber she's holding is a child's toothbrush that my friend Krystal bought for me as a gift. I may have begged. (It says some of Kylo's lines and is probably the best present I've ever gotten apart from the cat)
The holidays were fantastic. I still haven't really bounced back from them. I've also been doing a lot of odd jobs so I've been fairly busy which is good for me. I like being productive.
Media Musings
I know no one probably cares, but I saw The Rise of Skywalker and I personally hated it, but I won't complain. I adored all of the Adam Driver parts, and two things happened that I wanted to happen. Spoilers but if you don't care.
It's Kylo Ren's redemption and them finally admitting that Rey and Ben do have a romantic connection. Judging from rumors of other scripts and versions it could've been a lot worse. So I'm happy with what we got, if not forever broken by it.
The movie reminded me of my slight Adam Driver obsession and I have fallen down that rabbit hole with no chance of returning.
It's funny but one of my favorite movies from 2019 was actually Zombieland: Double Tap. I genuinely can't believe that it beat out Star Wars but it did. It was the perfect follow up to Zombieland. It's campy, bloody, crude, hilarious and full of ridiculous ways to kill zombies, but at its core, it's a family show, er at least it's about family. My sister says this explains a lot about me, but she also completely agrees.

I also just watched Knives Out and it was fantastic. A classic whodunnit, mystery with gorgeous cinematography and a flawless cast. Chris Evans is in it and he wears this ridiculous cable knit sweater.
He's basically the direct opposite of Captain America. Who I don't mind, but I was telling my dad that I liked him more in this movie, and he was all "He just swears here." so I was like "That's probably it," and my Dad had this moment where he looked at me and blinked, "Oh no, you've grown up now." This was really funny to me because the fact that I'm 25 seems to have escaped him. He loved it too though.
Books
I also read a slew of books and have yet to review any, but I read A Starless Sea, Call Down The Hawk, Scorpio Races, Ninth House. I also counted up my physical tbr and thanks to boxing day I have 102 unread books. I'm too scared to count my kindle books.
Yeah, it's bad.
Writing/ Art
I only wrote a smattering of sentences these past few months, but I've been itching to get back to it. Art has kinda taken precedence. I just have so many mediums to work with, oil, digital, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, graphite, and so many things I want to create and capture. I'm also just having fun trying new things.
I also keep changing my style up which isn't helping.
Life stuff
Went to the Ocean with my friend Elizabeth and her family. It was a fantastic, healing, and inspiring trip. I've been meaning to go to Tofino for years. It even got a small shoutout in A Starless Sea, which isn't surprising as it's pure magic. A fae wonderland.
I hope this wasn't a super annoying post, sorry for all the gifs. Their fun. I will try to catch up on everyone's blogs at some point this week I'm curious about what you all have been up to.

Hello!
ReplyDeleteI personally loved Rey and Ben...*Coughs* I adore them.....I may or may not be obsessed haha....
Your updates were fun to read -- and the OCEAN!!! :O
Hello!
DeleteYay, someone else to cry about it with. Right!! They are adorable... Same... just a little bit. XD
Thanks. It was amazing!
I didn't hate Rise of Skywalker, but I didn't love it. It was okay. Which is better than I can say for The Last Jedi, so yay? But all that has faded to the back of my memory because... a friend gave us Disney+ for Christmas, and I'm 6 episodes into The Mandalorian and so freaking obsessed it's both hilarious and scary. I love this kind of obsession. Been over a year since I had one, and I know my writing tends to skyrocket when I'm crushing hard on a new fictional character, so I'm hoping this boosts me through the last slew of chapters of One Bad Apple rewrites.
ReplyDeleteYour baby kitten is adorable :-) Making me want to get a cat, almost.
It was one of those kinds of films. I'm one of the loved The Last Jedi crowd, but I get why a lot of people didn't. Baby Yoda did make everything else kinda disappear. I loved it too! Can't wait for the second season. It's a good one. Wow, I wish I was a bit more like that, I have too many. XD
DeleteOh same! Nice!! I'm excited for that story!!
Thanks! She's super vicious too. You should XD
I've finished all 8 eps of The Mandalorian now and am just casually sitting here wearing a Mando shirt, drinking out of a coffee mug that says "This is the way" on it and listening to the Mandalorian soundtrack on YouTube. Literally doing all 3 of those right now. I'm beyond obsessed. GAH, so good.
DeleteMeanwhile, I tagged you with a writing tag on my blog. Play if you want to!
I love that!!! It's that good! I was an instant fan. That's why your the best! XD
DeleteOh thanks!
Your kitten is so cute!!! I love the lightsaber! I ended up really liking Rise of Skywalker after I saw it twice in the theater. <3 Oh, I want to try to see Knives Out soon!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you got to see the ocean! I'm glad to see a post from you, Skye!
Thank you!! Right, it's fun. I should probably see it a second time. <3 You should! It's amazing!
DeleteIt was such a fantastic last minute surprise. Thanks! I know it's been a while. XD
OH MY GOODNESS THAT CAT!!!!! IS. SO. STINKING. CUTE!! *goes and dies*
ReplyDeleteYour beach pictures are stunning! It really does look like a wonderland!
I really liked the art you shared! Your Captain Jack art was particularly awesome!
Also, even though I haven't watched the movie, that Pikachu gif always gets me.
XD She's everything.
DeleteThank you! Honestly the prettiest beach I've ever been too!
Ahh, Thanks! He's my all time favorite character to paint.
You should, it's really good! A fun, family show. Right! XD
OH MY GOSH. THE KITTEN IS SO CUTE
ReplyDeleteAND THAT ART. HOLY COW. THAT ART IS AMAZING
I also loved Knives Out...though it physically pained me to look at Daniel Craig and hear a non-British accent. It literally took me half the movie to be able to look at him while he was talking and not have my subconscious be like THIS IS WRONG
But I still loved it. My sisters went to see it with me and every time Chris Evans swore they'd either whisper, "Language" or "Do you kiss your mamma with that mouth?" in a Samuel Jackson voice :D
I think so too, she's starting to figure it out and use it to her advantage. XD
DeleteTHANK YOU!!!
So glad someone else has seen it and loved it. My dad had that problem too. XD I had just seen him in Logan Lucky so the accent didn't really affect me.
It's hard not too. XD That's hilarious, the best reaction!
The little part about Chris Evans and Knives Out is literally the reason I’m subscribing to this blog. That has blessed me today and I need more of those vibes in my life. 😂💛👏
ReplyDeleteXD This made my day! <3

Anyways, I loved this update. Thank you for sharing with us. I hope you're having a great start to the new year. <3
CHRISTINE *TACKLE-GLOMPS BEARHUG* I've missed you too!! I appreciate that.
DeleteTHANKS, SHE IS THE BEST AND THE WORST! I WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR HER! XD
*flailing* THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I need to show more of the in between shots, because it can be pretty ugly too. XD
That means the world too me, I'm always worried that I need to focus more.
Thank you! I've been collecting pretty things or trying to at least. :D

DeleteI missed you too! I'm excited for your new blog! <33
Our family cats are indoor outdoor (parents rules, although between all the doors and people in our house, not sure anything else is possible), but we've had some tragedies and I'm determined when I get my own place my cats will only be indoors, can't risk anything else.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a true Star Wars fan, but I've spent the last several years watching (or rewatching in some cases) all the films plus now Mandalorian. Episode VII I was low-key shipping Finn and Rey and thought Kylo Ren was the weirdest and whiniest character ever. Then Episode VIII happened, and I was like, "Hello, Kylo Ren." And then I was a Reylo shipper. So I loved his redemption and their story, didn't care about anything else except the trio being together. I'm wanting to get into all the Star Wars storylines books and animated movies because apparently every true Star Wars fan is furious that the filmmakers picked an obscure and poor storyline.
Ours usually are to, but not this one. Losing a pet is so hard. That's my plan too.
DeleteI don't think I am either really. The Mandalorian is soo good! Omigosh, this was pretty much my experience with the films. The Last Jedi changed everything, but for the better in my opinion. I just wish they hadn't tried to back track so much. Good idea. I feel like the movie's biggest mistake was trying to please everyone.
You can't so why try, really.
Eek I LOVE this post!! Great to hear from you again, Skye! Your trip looks like it was BEAUTIFUL. *heart eyes* <33
ReplyDeleteTHANKS Lila! <333

Thanks! He can be funny when he's not trying to be. It was, Thank you so much!
DeleteAwww! Your cat is so adorable, and sweet-looking. Awwwwww, yet again.
ReplyDeleteYour art is epic. How do I reach that level of amazingness?
Well, one of my favorite movies of the year was Jumanji: The Next Level. I liked it even better than the first one.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D was my show for the year. I watched it from July to January, and it was epic. I also watched a lot of Battlestar Galactica, NCIS, Longmire, and rewatched Burn Notice Season Two (I mean, I'm writing a whole fanfiction on it so, yeah. And now I hardcore ship Carla and Jacob (he's a character I made up).
I read a lot of MG fantasy (or more specifically, Wings Of Fire) because between volleyball, basketball, taekwando and theater I was pretty busy.
Thanks! I love her so much!!
DeleteI appreciate that, thank you! Hours and hours of practice, you could probably be better.
I just saw that one, it was good. But the first one is still my favorite.
Nice! Longmire is great!
Love a good MG fantasy, that's a lot. Wow.
Kitty! So sweet! I'm so sorry about the loss of your other ones. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteThe ocean looks beautiful and I love your art!
Thanks! *hugs*
