A Slapdash Recap

First off I finally cut my hair. I kept saying I wanted to but kept stopping myself for some strange reason. But I did it, and even though I didn't get a haircut with a samurai sword it felt incredibly therapeutic.

I usually hate going to get my hair cut. But I picked a salon with really good reviews and had the best haircut of my life. She actually cut it exactly like the picture and made some alterations that would suit me more. The sweetest hairdresser I ever had, she took before and after photos for me too.

I plan on doing some fun photoshoots with my sister at some point. It's so soft and I've been doing all kinds of fun hairstyles with it. Everyone said I was going to hate it or regret it, but it was one of the best decisions I made in a while. It sounds weird to say I equated my long hair with a lot of negativity and depression, but I did.

And I wasn't sad to see it go. My hair or the depression. The next target is my anxiety and while I might never completely get free of that one. I haven't been letting it control me anymore. I still have to fight it and sometimes it wins.

It's funny that part of that involved just staying in one place. I didn't move, I decided to stay where I am for the time being, and I honestly don't know if that was the right call or not. But I'm not losing sleep over it.

I was also low-key inspired by Hyunjin's hair. (Highly recommend taking style cues from K-pop boys)

I love him and Stray Kids so much. (Thanks to Tracey for getting me to look them up) I have fallen down a hole with them. I've liked K-pop for forever, but it's taken over my life this month. Not mad about it.

True Beauty helped me discover Korean skincare and it's been doing absolute wonders for my skin. I might do a self-care post on it if anyone is interested. It also tore my heart out, but that's not related.

Also, double cleansing will change your life.

Books

Been reading a lot of dark academia books lately and loving them.

If We Were Villians by M. L Rio - I figured out the plot within the first few chapters but was still gutted by it anyway. Her descriptions are so lush.

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik- so British and an unlikable heroine and a soft boi. Yes, please.

The Mystery of Black Hollow Lane by Julia Noble- I'm halfway through, like the atmosphere and Latin
Club

And I joined Hamlette's Sense and Sensibility read-along. I've been wanting to read some Austen this year. So this was perfect.

Finally, read The Foxhole Court and I am not okay. I read all of them in like two days, and I have a lot of emotions that I have no idea what to do with them. Someone help me.

Writing

I've finally started writing again. I'm trying to push myself to do it chronologically. I've also been typing out all the stuff I wrote in notebooks over the course of 2020 so that's been tedious. But it's been nice to get back to it. Here's to hoping that the productivity lasts.

Had a zoom chat with Maddie and Jenelle and they were both so encouraging about my writing. It was also just so cool to see both of them. They're the best!

Art

I have been doing art, but not posting anything so that's been interesting. I've been working on a secret project that I don't want to show until it's well underway. But it's something I'm really excited about and kinda mixes both my art and writing. (Which is something I've been trying to do for quite a bit)

Here's line art of a random doodle. I've been playing around with different styles. (I'm also finally drawing without references and it's been amazing)

A character from 'The Fairy and the Artist' who still doesn't have a name. But I have several songs for him, have a rough idea of his quirks. He loves coffee and oversized sweaters. He actually has incredibly blonde hair so this picture is a lie.

I've been incredibly excited for Spring. I've been sitting outside and listening to Indie music willing it to warm up. I've been trying to sketch outside too, but my fingers keep turning pink. I'm working on a Persephone-inspired piece.

Watching

Vincenzo

This show became a quick favorite. When I first saw edits for it, it looked very suave. A mafia lawyer named Vincenzo Cassano who wipes out other mafia baddies. What it actually is, is a genre-hopping chaotic show. With a crazy ensemble cast, and some of the most absurd plotlines I've ever seen.  Like you'll be laughing your head off one moment at some crazy antics and then someone will die brutally in the next scene. The stakes are high, but it loves to poke fun at the main character, and it manages to balance it all out.

They even had a plotline where Vincenzo needed to seduce this rich guy, I have always wanted someone to flip this trope and it was hilarious.

I admittedly have a terrible sense of humor, but this killed me.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

I can't believe we're only getting six episodes. I enjoyed the first one. It's more or less exactly what I was expecting and I love that they are kinda addressing how out of touch Bucky would be.

He's a grandpa and I love him.

Kill It

I'm not sure what I was expecting from a show about assassins and with a title like that. It was never going to end well, but I wanted it to. I love my soft boi assassin who's also a vet and has his little family.

True love

I'll just be sad about it for another year.

Goblin

My sister and I have been dragging this one out intentionally. It's actually the first K-drama I ever heard of. It's at the top of my list. I love the story, cinematography, and characters. Has the most adorable Grim Reaper you've ever seen. We're almost done and I'm a mess.

That more or less catches you guys up. February and March have both been pretty good for me.
How's it been for you?

  1. First of all, I love this post.
I adore your hair and honestly being inspired by k-pop boys seems perfect. They clearly know what they're doing. Also so glad you had so much relief over getting rid of it. It really suits you.
So many things, I'm excited for you to be writing and working on a secret project.
The horse joke is hilarious, but then I have a terrible sense of humour too. XD
The shows! I need to see these at some point. If only I could commit to something long enough to do it.

    2. Thanks!
I'm so glad you like it. I have a new obsession with short hair. I highly recommended it, they really do.
      It was really nice.
Thank you, I'm having fun with both.
      Right! We'll be terrible together.
You do! It's hard with K-dramas cuz the length.

  2. Hey, I cut my hair this month, too! I didn't take off nearly as much as you did, though, wow! I've had drastic haircuts like that in my life, and I always love the freedom afterwards. :)
Ooh, I have A Deadly Education out from the library, and I'm really looking forward to reading it! Especially now that I know there's a soft boi...

  3. AAAHHHH YOUR HAIR LOOKS AMAZING!!! I'm so glad you did that for yourself. And it turned out so, so beautifully! <3 Also I would LOVE a self-care post! My skin is so bad, ugh. I could use all the help I can get!

Oooh, I'm so curious about this secret project you have going on! :D That's so great you've been working on things. Looks like you've been creating AND consuming some lovely stuff!

I'm so happy to hear you had a good February and March. I do hope the rest of your March and April proves to be magical! <3

    1. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! It was very needed. I was expecting to hate it so I was really happy with the result.
I'll start working on that one then. It's definitely been a lot of trail and era.

I'm hoping to reveal it soon, if all goes well. Yeah, it's been so nice. I've been very inspired.

Thanks! I hope you have a magical April too. <3

  4. Your hair is so cute, and wow, was that over a foot cut off? I've had a lot cut off before but my hair never could get that long.

I'm curious about your art and writing project . . . could it be a graphic novel?

I looooove K-Beauty. I read a book about it (this had been on my list for ages), then Michelle Lab Muffin Beauty mentioned the sunscreens when discussing what uva (ages) and uvb (burns) does and how US sunscreen (which is goop) doesn't cover uva. I really got into through James Welsh's youtube. I've been a little shaken about the suncreen because apparently there was some manufacturing fraud regarding the efficacy that affected several brands that used that manufacturer (James Welsh first mentioned it but Hyrum did a further video which mentioned one of my favorite sunscreens :( and it looks like my other fav was pulled too.

    1. Thanks, I'm not quite sure but it must've been about that much. My hair grows pretty quickly.

      Ooh your so close.

It's so good right! I should read some books on it. Yeah, I got one of their sunscreens and it's for oily skin and made so it doesn't clog your pores or anything. I did hear about that, but I need to do more research. I watch this one girl's videos and she recommended a few, the one I have now is almost impossible to get though. I tried to buy another bottle and it was sold out.

    2. Yeah, they've taken ones that presumably didn't meet their alleged sofa off the market, one of mine is those, and I just found the other of mine did pass and I think everyone is trying to get it, I went on a whole long youtube research session after I commented.

  5. Ooh, I love your new haircut! It looks great on you. Cutting it really is kind of freeing.
Sense and Sensibility is really good. I've been trying to read more Austen, too (right now I'm reading Mansfield Park, and I'm not sure what I think about it yet. I just know that I love Fanny Price).
It looks like you've been reading lots of great books, and watching lots of great shows.
Ooh, I love that drawing! You're such a talented artist.
I'm so excited to hear more about your writing project.
Hope spring goes well for you.

I've been really enjoying it so far. I need to get to that one at some point.
      Yeah, it's been nice.
      Aw thanks so much!
      Hopefully soon.
      You too!

  7. Your haircut is fabulous!! I can't wait to see your photoshoot when you do it! I love getting haircuts so I grow it out then chop it off about every two years (Is getting it sliced off by a samurai sword now on my bucket list? Maybe. XD)

Okay, I love that line art drawing. I couldn't draw anything without a reference so that is so cool that you don't need one! I'm so excited for your secret project!

Omigoodness Thank you! It's something I only just started attempting. I'm hoping to get better at it.

  9. SO MUCH CUTENESS. Gah, I just love that look! It's perky and winsome, just like you!

I'm obsessed with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. I need more Battleship!Bucky and Shrimp!Sam, stat. I love how these Marvel tv writers are basically taking the Tumblr AU versions of Bucky, Sam, and Wanda and bringing them to life. They're giving the people what they want, and I for one am here for it. :D

It's soooo good! Yess! I loved that part, can't wait to see the bois interact with each other.
That is the perfect description of what they did! XD
      Same here!

  10. I totally get how cutting your hair could metaphorically and physically relieve you of a burden. I've never cut mine... but if I did, it would be for a reason of making a fresh start of some sort.

Yay for doing some writing and art again too! Excellent to hear :-)

  11. 100% thought I commented on this, turns out I 100% didn't xD. Your new hair looks AMAZING, Skye - you remind me of Chloe Bennet!! And also yesssss to Falcon and the Winter Solider, I am ADORING that show.

    1. I do that all the time! Thanks for commenting. XD THANK YOU! Oh that's such a nice compliment she's gorgeous, and I think someone said I looked a little like her once, and I was like O.O (She's so pretty)
It's so good!! I love the bromance and just everything!

  12. What the heck is going on with that scene with the guy getting his hair cut. He doesn't look happy. XD
Your hair looks amazing. It's so K-pop style and I love that.
Secret project, how exciting. I'm happy to hear you're doing writing and art.
I love those gifs for Kill It. How are they so cool.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier!!! I loved that show. It's one of my top favourites of Marvel. If I remember correctly, I think you didn't like it as much by the end, which is fine since all of my IRL friends and family didn't love it as much I do. I think I'm too easy to please sometimes. XD
Also, let's pretend this comment isn't so far in the future. XD

    1. It's from the K-drama Sweet Home. People start turning into monsters. One has a hold of her hair, and the guy behind her has to chop it off. XD
      Aww thank you so much!
It's fun, I need to work on it more.
      Right! I love those characters.
It was actually far better than I thought it was going to be. I love the Sam and Bucky interactions especially. I wasn't a fan of the more politically charged storylines, but I still liked it anyway. That's true, I thought it was going to be more of a comedy, but what they did was good. I have a few shows like that. I can be too. XD
      Sure thing.
