The world has been somewhat draining lately. I have been avoiding it and jumping from fictional world to fictional world. Mine or other people's. I've been reading at the same pace I did when I was younger. 500-page books no longer seem daunting. Just a longer escape.
I moved to a small sleepy town, and I love it. We're close enough to a city that I can still go to a book store but stay somewhat away from the chaos of it all. It's the perfect place to sequester myself away and write a spooky, fog-filled story. So that's more or less what I've been doing. Plotting, sketching, and whiling away the hours with anime and mangas.
I finished the manga/anime of Horimiya and I miss it already. The Girl from the Otherside is gorgeous and I'm obsessed with the art style and the idea of a monster caring for a little girl.
Mostly I've been stocking up on creepy or cozy things for fall.
My days are slow full of many cups of tea and coffee, and light conversations. It's nice, and I'm always scared it's not going to last. I'm trying to enjoy it while I can.
While it lasts.
I started driving again, and the scary thing is I actually enjoy it. Even ended up driving to Starbucks during a tornado warning and was pretty unbothered. Now my friend and I make a point to take little trips just for fun. I'll attempt the test at some point, but I'm going to wait until I'm really comfortable.
I'm excited to do some fall baking. Drink my weight in chai, apple cider, and pumpkin creme cold brew. I have plans to go to a corn maze hopefully that works out.
I got a copy of Sleepy Hollow to annotate. And a pile of books to read.
I'm set basically, if anything I have to cut my list down a bit. There are just too many things that fit this time of year and it's horribly short. I'm also going to try to write an entire novel, which is probably impossible but I'm still going to try.
Here's a couple snippets.
“Other
students, basically everyone. They say it’s haunted.”
He smirks at
that, but it seems pained. “Part of the local lore, but Liam would know that.” He doesn’t sound like he's bought into it himself.
I shrug, he
did know. I couldn’t deny that. My ignorance is to blame not Liam’s. “If you
believe those things anyway.”
The pen
hovers. “You don’t then.”
I look
around. The lights and colors smear, my focus is lost on stray sugar granules scattered
across the table. I take a breath, “No.”
At least I
didn’t use to. -The Fairy & the Artist
I scrape
the grit off my blood-covered hands. The color reminds me of a piece of yarn, I
had wrapped it around his wrist, carelessly labeled it the string of fate. I
wanted to keep him, at the time it seemed so simple. Fate holds more weight than love.
But you
can’t force it. I should have known that. You don’t get to hold onto things or
people. That fate isn’t a promise.
It’s an
omen.- The Fairy & the Artist
Basically, it's lots of fog, art, and foxes. All the best things really. Will hopefully be doing more posts this month. Maybe a book-related one. I have a slight rant about The Secret History that I could type up if anyone is interested. Or maybe something aesthetic related who knows.
I've yet to read the Secret History, once I do I'll be interested in your rant.
ReplyDeleteLove all your fall plans. Your new location sounds so lovely.
It does seem there isn't enough fall to stuff all the good things into.
I had fun with it, I have a lot to say though. XD
DeleteThanks! It is.
There really isn't.
(This post is such a mood, I love it!)
ReplyDeleteI totally feel the world-is-draining-read-lots-of-books. No matter what people say, reading good long books is an excellent and actually rather healthy form of escape.
I enjoy driving, too! It's a little bit weird, but it's true.
(Thanks I appreciate that!)
DeleteIt helps right! I completely agree. It's probably the best thing I've done this month.
Once I got better at it, I started wondering why I ever hated it. It's freeing.
I'm excited for autumn as well. And The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is one of my favorite autumn reads too. :D
ReplyDelete-Quinley
The best season. It's so good! :D
DeleteI was already soooo excited for fall, and this post has made me even MORE psyched about it. Gimme ALL the cozy Autumn vibes!
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful to hear you've moved to a place you love. That is a huge blessing! It really does sound like a delightful setup. And EEP. I'm always thrilled to hear more about The Fairy and the Artist. It just sounds DELICIOUS.
Fog, art, and foxes--those really ARE the best of things. So glad things are going well for you. I do hope your fall is full of ALL the lovely things! <3
Glad you share my enthusiasm, yay! I was hoping it would do that. Yesss!
DeleteThanks, it's been so nice! It really is. *flails* Awe I'm glad, I'm trying to get it finished.
Right! Thank you! Yours too! <3
Well, I am absolutely here for fog, art, and foxes! I can't wait to read your new book! Autumn is my most creative season, and I am eagerly anticipating its arrival, even though I know I've got another month or so to wait yet.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I nominated you for the Sunshine Award here today :-) Play if you want to!
Same here. XD Thanks, I can't wait to read yours either. I don't know what it is about it, but it really makes you want to create. Yeah, it hits early here. And is gone way too soon.
DeleteThank you!
ooh I'm digging this fall aesthetic and those snippets! Can't wait to hear more about The Fairy and the Artist. And also now I really want to move to a small sleepy town XD
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm hopefully going to do more posts about it.

This is making want fall to come. It's still so hot here.
ReplyDeleteI'm already wearing a coat some days, but I get it.

DeleteAgh this makes me so happy and excited for fall. (I mean. I was already excited. But now I'm /moreso./)
ReplyDeleteYou have hinted at Ghosts in your WIP and I am duly intrigued. I love me some good fictional ghosts.
I'm so glad!(I've been in fall mode since the beginning of August. Love that)
DeleteThere are a few ghosts, banshees, and faeries. Same here. :D

ReplyDeleteRight!!! It's the best!
DeleteGorgeous post. I love how much you embrace the season 🍂 I would like to really sink myself into it if I can find the time. You moved? How exciting! p.s. love the snippets more please
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's my absolute favorite. You should. Yeah, it's been a nice change.
DeleteAw thanks, will do.
I'm so glad you've been having a good fall!! Fall has been slowly starting here but it's still more summer than fall so it's hard to believe yours has already been going. This post was so pretty, I loved the header (and your wearing you're artist sweater!! I saw the cuff of it in one of the photos).
ReplyDeleteThanks!! Yeah but that means you guys will get a longer one. It's going to be snowing here soon.
DeleteAwe thanks! I had fun making it (I am, I've been wearing tons of cardigans like a grandma.)
