This post is just meant to be fun. I know that most people have a variety of interests and most of those tend to contrast with each other. I just thought I'd point out my own. How I very much relate to Persephone. I want to pick flowers and bask in spring whilst also being the queen of the Underworld.
An example
Is that too much to ask for. (despite the fact that I'm heavily allergic to flowers)
Me getting prepped for spring/summer was getting an epi-pen and allergy medication. Which I've had to take far too often.
Today I want to talk about the things I love that are pastel encrusted and soft or just cute. Lately, I've been finding more cute things. Is it the sun, the blooming flowers, maybe?
Either way, I'm obsessed. I've slowly been trying to incorporate this aesthetic into my life, it contrasts beautifully with the grungy darker stuff I usually go for. I've always loved a good contrast.
Most of these things have been small like adding pink things into my life whenever I can. Eating pink food, that's generally strawberry flavored. Taking copious pictures of flowers. Always running out to watch the sunset turn the sky blush-colored. Drinking strawberry and peach lemonade. Listening to soft acoustic music in the rain. May showers are particularly good. I love to curl up on our swing and sketch or read during them.
*clicks on TXT We Lost the Summer*
Here I am spreading my love for pink with all the subtlety of Tamaki Suoh.
movies
Map of Tiny Perfect Things
I need more movies like this cute/funny with believable characters stuck in a time loop. So they go around looking for perfect things. It makes me emotional and I highly recommend.
The Mitchell's vs the Machines
This had me and my brother cackling. Geniuely funny and the family dynamics and general chaos made it incredibly enjoyable. A good dose of 90's nostalgia as well.
Spirited Away
dramas
Doom at your Service
This one has all the Hades/Persephone vibes you could hope for. It's about a girl who finds out she's dying of a brain tumor and after getting drunk wishes doom on the world. It just so happens to be Doom's birthday and he gets to grant a wish. He picks hers, and she enters into a contract with him.
I am loving it, plus there's a writer side character who gets Lee Soo Hyuk as her love interest and it's so fun to see him in a modern drama.
My Roommate is a Gumiho
This is lighthearted, doesn't take itself to seriously drama I've been needing. I love the premise even if it's a bit ridiculous. A girl runs into a Gumiho and accidently swallows his foxbead. She then moves in with him until he can find a way to remove it. I love the main character Lee Dam, she loves food, history, and is a little insane. She can't touch boys who are born in the year of the tiger, or else she gets super sick. So of course the second lead is one of those boys and he stole my heart immediately. Darn second lead syndrome. It's even worse because the lead is played Jang Ki-yong who I loved in Kill It. So I'm torn.
So I Married the Antifan
Another one where the premise is just perfect. I swear most K-dramas have fanfiction inspired plots and I wouldn't have it any other way. Essentialy after a not so good run in with a pop star Hoo Joon. Where she ends up throwing her heel at him. Lee Geun-yeong gets fired from her job as a journalist. She vows revenge and after getting a ton of backlash from fans ends up being offered a part in a reality show with Hoo Joon. Where they live together and such. It's a romance full of ups and downs and I'm enjoying it immensly
Miss the Dragon
This one is trash in so many ways. It makes no sense for one. The cgi is abysmal, I dislike the main female lead, and there is a lot wrong with it. But it's also one of my favorite things of the moment. I started watching this for Dylan Wang in a silver haired wig so my expectations weren't high. I'm not watching this for substance. It's like cotton candy pretty and aesthetic but dissolves rather easily. It is the most pastel and saccharine show that I am currently watching. Again though I love it oddly enough. I would watch it 100% just for the Dragon King. He has young Jareth vibes.
Also the aesthetics and costumes are right up my alley.
The chick is on like her third recarnation and he's had to let her marry other people. So he's nothing if not patient. My true favorites are the second leads one whose a stodgy immortal dude and the other a flighty bird demon named Qingqing. They have a Beauty& the Beast and even slightly Sophie & Howl type relationship. I love them.
They are adorable.
I'm sure there are other soft things I've been enjoying, but for the life of me I can't remember any.
I guess I'll end it here. I think my next post will involve all the other stuff that doesn't fit the pastel theme.
I love this post so much!! I got way too excited for the Harley Quinn GIF with blood on her and flowers everywhere. I didn't know that was something I needed in my life. You have strong Persephone energy and it's amazing.
ReplyDeleteThose movies are so good! Spirited Away really is incredible. It's ridiculously calming and inspiring.
Thanks!! When I saw it in the trailer I was like I need that. Right!
DeleteThanks you, I appreciate that.
They are! I loved it so much, I have to do so much art.
Persephone Aesthetic, you should make that a thing.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Sophie and Howl vibes, might have to try it. Actually I put several of these movies on my list.
I should!
DeleteI know anything that is even slightly like them makes me happy. Hope you like them!
YESSS EMBRACE THE PINK! It is my FAVORITE color. It just makes me so very happy! I am all about that pastel life. And the contrast of dark/grunge with pastels is FABULOUS! You would make an INCREDIBLE Persephone. <3
ReplyDeleteAnd Spirited Away!!! Oh man, I adore that one! I only saw it for the first time myself a few months ago, but I fell in love. I'm becoming a HUGE Ghibli fan. They are so peaceful and beautiful.
THE PINK IS EMBRACED! I think it might be mine too at this point. It does! Same, I love it so much.
DeleteMy two moods! AHHH thank you. <3
It's such a beautiful movie!! It's new to be too, I'm sad it took me this long. Yess there all so good.
Nothing wrong with watching something solely for a pretty guy! Or his pretty wig. I completely do that.
ReplyDeleteThis post as a whole reminds me of my last year or so working night shift. I got obsessed with CSI: Miami. I didn't actually like the characters much, and it was kind of run-of-the-mill as forensic mystery shows go... but it was filled with sunshine. Drenched in sunshine. Golden sunshine everywhere. I didn't realize how much I actually was craving sunshine until I tried to figure out why I kept craving that show and realized I was equating it with the sun. My hubby and I worked the night shift for 4 years, so yeah... we kind of turned into vampires who only got out in the sunshine on Sunday mornings when we stayed awake late to go to church.
So I get this, in a way. Here's to satisfying aesthetic cravings!
Basically how I pick shows at this point. Glad I'm not the only one.
DeleteOh that makes a lot of sense actually. I think for a long time I was only into more sad/ emotional stuff. So maybe I am just craving some cuter sappy stuff. At any rate it's making me happy. Glad you don't have that job anymore sounds pretty tough.
The best kind of cravings! :D
Because we were both working 3rd shift and didn't have kids yet, it wasn't too bad. It was nice in the summer because we'd sleep all day when it was hot anyway, and be awake at night when it was nice out. But it was hard in other ways, like having to stay up "late" to go to church, only being involved in slices of our friends' lives, etc. And the eventual craving for sunlight was interesting, heh.
DeleteOh that's good then, I had an uncle who used to work the graveyard shift and he liked it. That would be nice in summer.
DeleteYeah, that would be pretty weird. You can sympathize with vampires. XD
I had never thought of things having a Persephone vibe, but after reading this post I may be obsessed. It describes you so well!
ReplyDeleteAck, you really can't go wrong with Spirited Away! Love that one. Doom at Your Service sounds like something I would dig.
Right, it's a fun concept. Thanks glad you think so.
DeleteIt's so so good! I think you would!!
Ooh, I love this post! I'd never thought of things having a Persephone aesthetic before, but I love it (especially how much pink there is!) I feel like all of us who were/are obsessed with Greek mythology had at least one character who we instantly connected to.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've been having a lot of fun with it. Yes, pink is the best!
DeleteI completely agree with that, which one did you connect to?
I connected to quite a few, but maybe Athena? I remember liking her quite a bit.
DeleteOoo fantastic choice!
DeleteThis aesthetic is so whimsical while being delicate and strong, and I love it!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'll now have to check out "So I Married an Anti-Fan" it sounds like my kind of drama. Thanks for sharing!
Awe thanks! Glad you like it!!
DeleteYou should!! It's so good and cute. You're welcome!
That Birds of Prey gif is *chef's kiss* On Point
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Delete:D
Well, this post made me incredibly happy with the aesthetic. It was so nice and cool even though I don't relate to it much. *shrugs*
ReplyDeleteI’m glad it made you happy! What kind of aesthetics do you like?
DeleteHmmm, I'm not sure. I haven't thought about it. I should figured it out. I feel like my character collages might reflect my aesthetics, but I'm not even sure. I love aesthetics that I don't relate to.
ReplyDeleteI thought I pressed the reply button. *sighs*
DeleteMakes sense. I waste too much time on that sort of thing. Ooo! Love that!!
DeleteOh same!
(I do that all the time)
Peresphone is such an awesome Greek goddess. :D So it's neat that you that you found movies/films that matched her aesthetic.
ReplyDelete-Quinley
She is! :D
DeleteThank you!
